Deborah Vines, an award-winning playwright, has been involved in theater and film as a writer,
actor, director, and producer for the past 18 years. She has written numerous plays that have been
produced in various venues throughout the U.S., including in Boston, NYC, and Los Angeles. She
has also written 9 screenplays, with 2 development deals under her belt. On stage, she produced
and starred in The Kathy and Mo Show (originally written and performed by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy),
playing 17 different characters, both male and female, ages five to 80.
The show garnered terrific reviews and played to sold-out houses. Vines has also produced plays in Boston,
LA, and Massachusetts. She began directing with the Boston performance of her two-person, full-length
tragic-comedy Jackie and Clarisse to rave reviews. She also produced and directed a truncated,
experimental digital version of Rosebud’s, a comedic film set in a diner, which she also co-wrote.
She has since further developed the script (now called Rosie’s Diner) with Steven Beer, an
entertainment attorney with the renowned NYC-based Greenberg Traurig; plans are for a 5-week
2010 shoot. Her full-length musical Love! That 4 Letter Word
(
www.lovethat4letterword.com) was
staged as an Equity showcase in NYC in 2008; plans are to move it to an Off-Broadway house in 2010.
LaVie Productions (
lavieproductionsllc.com) co-produces/general manages along with Fresh
Air Productions.
Vines has also worked as an editor and a journalist, writing for several magazines on subjects ranging
from entertainment to alternative fish to computer chips, and spent two years at the Cannes Film
Festival as a journalist and interviewer for The Business of Film, a magazine based out of LA.
She is currently working on a memoir and a novel. Vines also holds an MS in psychology, and practiced
hypnotherapy for a very short time until her love of theater, film, and the written word took her away.
She is a member of ASCAP, the Dramatist’s Guild, the Hudson Valley Professional Playwright’s Lab and
AFTRA (SAG eligible).
